The study findings suggest that modern engineers are keen on accelerating their learning curve and expect their organisations to support this by creating learning pathways.Data shows 93 per cent of modern engineers are looking for upskilling&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/info-tech/ai-top-digital-priority-for-majority-of-c-suite-executives-accenture-report/article66858497.ece" target="_self">opportunities in AI,</a>&nbsp;cloud computing, and other new-age technologies, according to the EPAM-CMR Study.<a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/on-campus/future-proof-your-skills-to-gain-an-edge-as-an-engineer/article66324605.ece" target="_self">Modern engineers</a>&nbsp;are invested in shaping their future with clear career aspirations, social innovation, and sustainability goals, with 68 per cent and 46 per cent of modern engineers, respectively, believing that data analytics and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/info-tech/fierce-ai-talent-war-shifts-to-india-with-salaries-being-doubled/article66810931.ece" target="_self">artificial intelligence</a>&nbsp;will be in demand in the future, enabling enhanced consumer experiences and collaboration.<h5>Learning curve</h5>Similarly, delving deeper into their career aspirations, the study findings suggest that modern engineers are keen on accelerating their learning curve and expect their organisations to support this by creating learning pathways.According to the study, 80 per cent of participants find practices such as competency centres crucial for assisting employees in acquiring technical knowledge and developing problem-solving skills. Concerning tech domain preferences, two in every five modern engineers seek to learn microservice architecture, while Java is the most popular programming language, with 55 per cent of participants voting in favour for it.<h5>Major step forward</h5>Additionally, results demonstrated that the career aspirations of modern engineers vary with age: 57 per cent of modern engineers aged 25 years or under look for faster career promotions, whereas more than half of those between 26 and 30 are more invested in exploring&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/info-tech/ai-offers-45000-job-openings-in-india-report/article66641191.ece" target="_self">career expansion opportunities</a>&nbsp;through learning.“The corporate workforce has seen its fair share of transformations that have altered the traditional ways of doing business across different sectors. Bengaluru: Techies who are upskilled by their employers have the expectation of faster promotion, a survey conducted by tech firm EPAM and market research firm CyberMedia Research (CMR) said. About 91% of the respondents said that developmental and on-job training is their topmost expectation from the organisation they work with. Professionals between 23 and 25 years of age are the most eager to be promoted quickly by upskilling themselves, with 57% of them saying so.“This survey has shown us that companies investing in the career of employees by giving them an opportunity to grow through it is the best retention strategy. Techies do not want to just be given a set of courses to complete. They want to be able to choose their career path and the course,” Srinivas Reddy, managing director of India at EPAM Services.EPAM and CMR interviewed 800 professionals from IT services and product companies. All of the respondents were aged between 23 and 30. More women were concerned about getting flexibility at the workplace, to be able to work from home, than men. BENGALURU: Epam Systems CEO Arkadiy Dobkin says the company is looking to double its employee strength in India in the next few years. The $5-billion US-based software engineering and product development services company has about 6,000 people here now. "We have a tough time because of the situation in eastern Europe where our big talent pool has been. Today, 11,000 people are in Ukraine. So, India is very strategic from this point," he told TOI in an exclusive interaction.About 12 months ago, 60% of employees were in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. Currently, Russia is zero. Dobkin said they will have to make up for that in India. "Latin America should accelerate as well. In 3-4 years, we probably will double in India, depending on the global economy," he said. It grew the India headcount 150% in the last two years.Epam started its India operations in 2016 and it has presence in Hyderabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Gurugram and Chennai.Dobkin immigrated from the Soviet Union 32 years ago and started a company in the US. In 1993, he co-founded Epam with three employees and went on to list it on the NYSE in 2012. In 1997, Epam landed SAP as its first software product development client. In 2004, it acquired Fathom Technologies, opening its first EU delivery centre and entering the European market, and in 2013, established its digital engagement practice, in addition to expanding its offerings in agile, and business intelligence/analytics.Dobkin said that every three years, they have been doubling the company's strength. This happened from 2012 to 2015, 2015 to 2018 and then from 2018 to 2021. “From 2015, to probably 2017-18, we were exploring and trying to understand how to operate globally, because we came from different backgrounds, and our largest competitors had a bigger advantage. And we also wanted to capitalise on our engineering DNA,” he said.The company was inspired by Indian IT firms and the way they had globalised. "In 2018-19, when we understood that we could grow, we strategically were thinking about how to become a much more diversified company. Then all the situations happened in Eastern Europe which in some way accelerated our strategy,” he said.Epam crossed the $1 billion revenue mark in 2016. “And when we started to talk about $5 billion three-four years ago, the investment community was kind of surprised. We are now practically there on a run-rate basis. We now have a $10 billion aspirational target, but it's a very practical target," Dobkin said. The company, he said, invests heavily in industry knowledge, because big deals require strategising and implementing this. "So we need to acquire new skills, which is the biggest challenge for everybody, and we need to be able to align these skills in complex deals. Many elements and factors govern the digital transformation journey, and the best outcomes, per business goals, determine a program's success. Technology, data, infrastructure, processes, managing change, and team competencies are just a few essential components influencing the quality of program delivery. And factors like driving change, team competencies and keeping the consumer mindset in view are critical for delivering a successful digital transformation program. As a myriad of interdependent factors directs the digital transformation journey, providing a successful program becomes a complex and challenging affair. However, three aspects are fundamentally important for a successful digital transformation program.<ol><li>Results-focused approach</li></ol>A successful transformation program means achieving the expected business outcomes, necessitating a result-focused approach. It begins with clearly understanding the desired business outcomes and Return-On-Investment (ROI). This comprehension between the client and the implementation partner is attained during the analysis or discovery phase. This assists the client in having a better understanding of their business needs, success factors and priorities. Apart from analyzing the elements that require transformation, its associated rationale must also be examined. This also contributes to specifying the value proposition the implementation partner can provide to the client.The engagement of several stakeholders is crucial at this stage for paving the foundation for the transformation program. Some key stakeholders in the analysis phase and their roles include,<ol><li>Strategic and technical consultation&nbsp;are vital for having the correct vision for the program. A digital transformation journey is complex because it depends on multiple interlinked elements at every stage.
