To celebrate our engineering culture at EPAM India, we held the first ever local hackathon on October 7-8, 2017. EPAMers formed teams and coded together for 36 hours to come up with a feasible solution to a business problem centered around the topic of helping EPAM hire better.
Ten teams with 38 total participants participated in the hackathon and presented their final ideas to the senior leadership team consisting of the India GDO Head, Delivery Heads and Resource Management Head. While the teams churned out code, many employees came to cheer them on and watch them in action. Refreshments and games were set up throughout the room. Each team came up with innovative solutions to hire good candidates, such as using chatbots for hiring purposes, automatically matching job descriptions with resumes, predicting the probability of prospective candidates joining the company and filtering resumes through machine learning algorithms. Three teams were selected as winners of the hackathon challenge and each team member received iPads, Samsung Galaxy Tabs and Kindles as prizes. The hackathon provided an opportunity for employees to come together, learn and have fun.
